Introduction by Yangthang Tulku Rinpoche
Price: $24.95, plus shipping
Compiled from numerous Tibetan and Bhutanese sources,
including Longchenpa’s autobiography, and stories of his
previous lives and subsequent rebirths, The Life
of Longchenpa weaves an inspiring tale of wonder
and magic, of extraordinary visions and spiritual insight, set
in the kingdoms of fourteenth-century Tibet and Bhutan. It also
reveals for the first time fascinating details of his ten years
of self-exile in Bhutan, stories that were unknown to his Tibetan
Renowned as a peerless teacher, practitioner,
and scholar, Longchenpa (1308-1364) is widely recognized as
one of the greatest Tibetan Buddhist masters ever to live. Longchenpa
thoroughly studied and mastered every one of the many Buddhist
vehicles and lineages of teachings existing in Tibet at his
time. He is particularly renowned for his systematizing the
teachings of the Great Perfection or Dzogchen meditation tradition.
Through his radiant intellect and meditative accomplishment,
in both his teachings and his over 300 written works, Longchenpa
was able to reconcile the seeming discrepancies and contradictions
between the various presentations of the view and the path within
the many lineages of transmission. His written works are also
famous for being able to transfer true blessings just by reading
or hearing his enlightened words.
The book is also graced with many beautiful line drawings by
renowned Tibetan Buddhist illustrators such as Robert Beer,
Chris Banigan, Gomchen Oleshey, Glen Eddy, Ngak’Chang
Rinpoche and Khandro Dechen. In addition, detailed footnotes
help to expand upon and clarify the text, and an extensive glossary
reveals in simple terms the inner meaning of the unique language
of the Great Perfection tradition.

"As he did previously for the great Kagyu lama Gampopa,
Jampa Stewart presents here a detailed account of one of the
most renowned masters of the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.
By skillfully weaving together material from a wide range of
sources, Stewart gives his readers a vivid, inspiring and thoroughly
fascinating account of the life and works of Kunkhyen Longchen
Rabjampa, one of the world’s towering spiritual figures."
-- Jonathan Landaw, author of Images of Enlightenment
and Prince Siddhartha.
"Jampa Mackenzie Stewart has thoughtfully offered English
readers more insight into the life and times of one of the greatest
omniscient masters to ever manifest in this world, Longchen
Rabjam. We are grateful to Jampa for having a pure motivation
to inform readers of the true facts about how a fully enlightened
being is born in our world, lives to benefit others and departs
from the corporeal body.
"Being able to read biographies of the lineage masters
is a crucial part of any sincere practitioners development for
without these examples and the inspiration derived from them,
especially in these difficult times, it is next to impossible
to overcome the strong negative influences that confront us
daily. This book will serve as a constant inspiration and companion
for countless readers. Thank you, Jampa, for this dharma offering."
-- Lama Chonam and Sangye Khandro, translators of Yeshe
"This is a work of true devotion to our gracious gurus.
It is a joy to read an “outer” biography of a lama
in traditional style when written in fine yet simple English
prose. Now Longchenpa’s life, lived in the cockpit of
Tibetan existential aspiration at the high cultural moment,
is fully revealed."
-- Keith Dowman, translator of Maya Yoga
"Longchen Rabjam, his very name—meaning infinite,
vast expanse—encapsulates the enlightened view that he
challenges us to embody on the spiritual path. Should you want
to enter the very heart of the unique wisdom tradition of Tibet,
you need look no further than the life and teachings of this
extraordinary 14th century Tibetan yogi-scholar."
-- Matteo Pistono, author of In the Shadow of the Buddha
